RRC is a new organization. It is a merger of two initiatives:
- Knoxville Project Change: a locally based non-profit organization with a ten-year history in undoing racism.
KPC was part of a larger anti0racism intiative establish in 1991 by Levi Strauss & Co. through its corporate foundation.
The project addressed racial prejudice, institutional racism in four communities throuhgout the United States:
Albuquerque, NM; El Paso, TX; and Valdosta, GA, and beginning in 1993, Knoxville, TN.
- The Human Relations-Diversity Task Force of Nine Counties, One Vision. Throughout an
effort that began in February 2000 and convened over 3600 residents through the nine counties. Improving race relations
was identified as a necessary cornerstone to building a healthy, vibrant, sustainable region.
